A screening is a shortened assessment used to help determine if a full evaluation is recommended. Screenings are used situationally for the best interests and outcomes for a child and their family.
An evaluation includes a comprehensive assessment, analysis, and synthesis of a child’s occupational performance. Evaluations are uniquely completed with a “whole picture” approach where your child’s home, educational, and social environments are considered. You will be provided a written report of evaluation results, goal setting, and recommendations.
Sessions are currently being offered in the home setting. Some benefits of home-based therapy include: goals are addressed in your child’s “real world,” wrap around care is more feasible and tangible, your child may feel more at ease in their own space, and improved convenience for your family.
Winding Rhoades Therapy believes in the “bigger picture” where the family unit and caregivers can benefit from a space for support, education, and collaboration. Consultations and coaching are used in a variety of ways to best support the stage, space, and situation of your family. These services can be used preliminarily to better understand the foundations of sensory processing, “picky eating,” developmental milestones, primitive reflexes, etc. They can be provided as an add-on service to your child’s intervention for improved wrap around care. Furthermore, they can utilized as your family prepares to reduce services or after discharge to feel optimally supported as you carry on your skills and strategies through the “Winding Rhoades” of life.
All intervention is provided with a DIR (Developmental, Individual-Differences, Relationship-Based) Floortime approach

Occupational therapy is a medical profession that provides intervention to increase an individual’s ability to participate in their occupations (any task or activity that occupies one’s time). An occupational therapist assesses and addresses the physical, cognitive, and environmental aspects of one’s occupations and provides intervention to increase success and confidence with participation. For a pediatric client, this could include playing, engaging in friendships, eating, sleeping, completing self-care (dressing or bathing), or participating on extracurricular team.
Length of services is highly dependent on the needs and progress of each child. Your therapist will always be honest in their recommendations while also supporting your family’s desires and situations. We offer consultative and coaching supports to optimize you child’s plan of care. We value a team based approach where caregivers are key stakeholders in the team!
